TestDrive

TestDrive is an immersive youth career exploration program designed to provide students with invaluable hands-on experience across various positions within the Motive Power Industry.

Participants will also receive industry-leading safety training facilitated by the Nova Scotia Community College.

Through TestDrive, students have the opportunity to engage in paid summer employment terms with partnering employers. Summer Sector programs earn students 3 high school co-op credits. If you’re not already in O2 or Co-op student, speak to your school counselor or co-op teacher before you apply. Then sign up for the pre-placement online module by February 2nd with your school counsellor (NSVS – Nova Scotia Virtual School). Please note that this course does not guarantee acceptance into the program; it just ensures you are ready to go, should you be accepted! Eligible candidates from participating Regional Centres of Education and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial must meet the following criteria to apply:

  • Currently enrolled in grade 10 or 11
  • At least 16 years of age by May 1st of the application year

This program offers a unique pathway for students to gain practical skills, explore potential career paths, and establish valuable connections within the motive power industry.

Important Dates

  • Online Application deadline with Cover Letter and Resume: October 1, 2026 – December 18, 2026
  • Community and Teacher References deadline: January 22, 2027
  • Student Interviews: February/March 2027
  • Mandatory Family Information Session: April 2027
  • NSCC Safety Training: May 2027
  • Work Placements: July/August 2027
