Certifying Tire & Maintenance Technicians - Automotive Sector Council of Nova Scotia

A strategic goal of the Automotive Sector Council (ASC) is to attract job seekers to the Motive Power Industry. ASC, using the guidelines of Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL), has developed a Competency-based Profile for an Automotive Tire and Maintenance Technician (TMT). RPL is an approach to learning that credits individuals with what they know and what they can.

Industry and partners have developed the pathway, including tools and resources, that will facilitate assessment and recognition of the existing competencies of un-credentialed workers within, or those entering the automotive industry.

The job seeker will be assessed by a trained industry assessor and any gaps in the required competencies (skills and knowledge) will be identified. The individual then has the opportunity through Pathways to Success to acquire those competencies through short term training and can be certified within a few days, weeks or months for this entry-level position. ASC will assist and support applicants in becoming qualified as a (TMT). The Tire and Maintenance Technician pilot program intends to assess 8-10 diverse candidates by April 1, 2023, and every subsequent tire season moving forward.
